Zone 8a Planting Schedule
Action Plan: August in Zone 8a
Expert Note
In August, keep soil evenly moist and mulch to limit heat stress. Watch for aphids, whiteflies, and pepper/cucumber borers; use insecticidal soap early. Avoid over-fertilizing nitrogen—switch to balanced feeding if plants stall.
Seed & Soil
Direct sow or transplant heat-tolerant, fast producers like Camphor Basil, Cinnamon Basil, and Zucchini while soil is warm. Add quick, spicy flavor plants such as Shishito and Jalapeño if you can keep consistent moisture during establishment.
The Harvest
Harvest peppers and eggplant-style fruits frequently to keep plants producing, especially Jalapeño and Bell Pepper. Pick ripe Tomato regularly and remove any damaged fruit. For best quality, harvest Amish Paste and San Marzano at full color and use promptly.
