In August, keep soil evenly moist and mulch to reduce heat stress; water early to limit foliar disease. Watch for late-season pests like aphids and squash bugs, and remove any yellowing leaves. Feed heavy fruiters lightly every 2–3 weeks if growth slows.

Seed & Soil

Use the warm soil to direct sow quick, cool-season holdovers like New Zealand Spinach and Greek Basil, and tuck in Carrot for a fall harvest. If you have space, transplant Lettuce-type greens equivalents from your list as starts when available, and keep rows evenly watered until established.

The Harvest

Harvest regularly from Amarillo Carrot, Albion, and All American to keep plants producing and prevent quality drop. If you’re growing melons, pick Banana Melon when fragrant and fully colored. For best texture, harvest Broccoli heads promptly at peak size.
